A little known fact about me, I used to be a Girl Scout. It was only for a few months but it was long enough to appreciate their mission ("Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”) and develop my love of their Thin Mints, Trefolis and … well their cookies. In past years, I’ve relied on office co-workers to come around with their order sheets for my yearly fix. However, with the transition to Danico full-time, I’ve missed out. Sure, I would come across a stand or two at shops in my neighborhood, but usually after they’ve sold out of my favorites. Not this year!
This year, I will be using the Girl Scout Cookie Finder App. This app is available for both Apple and Android. It covers all of the U.S. and Puerto Rico, so my friends and family spread out all over the country, you can use it too! In addition to being able to find your favorite shortbread cookie, the app is social, you can tell your friends where you found them. The best part for me is the calendar integration of local sales, that way I can schedule in my crave run.
This is app is in the running for one of my favorite mobile apps. When you launch the app, take a look at the quick video. In those few seconds you realize that it’s more than just cookies you are supporting with your dollars. From there it is easy to navigate. I suggest going to the Meet the Cookies section next. It includes information on all the cookies including the Gluten-Free versions being test marketed this year. Additionally, there are reminders of what the girls gain from being a part of the Girl Scouts, such as money management and making eye contact, essential tools for business success later in life.
Now to the best part, finding the cookies. Upon launching the app, you were probably prompted to allow Location Services to be used. You have the option of using your current location or entering a zip code. I tried this out with both my zip code and my parents, just to see what I’d get. I refined my search to 10 miles and happily several troops are going to be in the area. Using the date option I could see which troop would be at the selected location, which is useful if you have a particular scout troop that you’d like to support. Adding to my calendar, sharing on social media and checking in with Foursquare are all done with a touch.
In case you haven’t figured it out by now, I really like this app, oh and the cookies. If you don’t have your “go to” cookie seller, I say try the Girl Scout Cookie Finder App
, your sweet tooth will thank you.
